Over this past weekend, the Normal West boys basketball team traveled to participate in the Lakes High School MLK tournament for the first time.
The Saturday matchup against Wauconda ended in West’s favor with the final score of 86-53. It was the highest scoring game for the Wildcats during the 2023-2024 season.
Isaiah Robinson earned a double double and Nate Moore contributed 18 points.
Taylor Hafermann has only been back for two games but kept the game alive with 10 points and 6 rebounds. With Hafermann back, the team has been 2-0, but without, they were 1-7.
“It feels good to be back on the hardwood and being able to play with my teammates,” Hafermann states.
After this game, West settled into 7-13 record.
After having Sunday off, the team was back at it again with a matchup against Fremd, ending with West losing with a final score of 65-37, making the team’s record 7-14.
The team has plans to work on their consistency with Coach Hafermann adding, “I am hoping we are able to get this fixed before postseason starts.”
With only 9 games left, the Wildcats are hoping to make them count.
Taylor Haferman added, “We have to mentally prepare and lock in for the remaining games to have a somewhat decent seed for Regionals.”
The Wildcats will visit the Peoria Lions for their next game at 6:30 p.m. Friday Jan. 19.
Following that, the Wildcats will play at Normal West against Pontiac at 2:30 p.m Saturday Jan. 20.
