Loy, Wildcat swimmers excel at state

On February 26th and 27th,  Normal West swimmers Andrew Loy(12), Austin Hartke(12), and Seth Ritter(11) competed in the state competition, and all three placed in the top six of their events, with Loy winning the 200 IM event and placing 3rd in the 100 freestyle.

The meet took place in Evanston, Illinois and the Wildcats exceeded expectations with the team finishing 9th in the team competition despite having only three swimmers at the meet.  Hartke took 6th in the 100 butterfly, and Ritter claimed 6th in the 500 freestyle.

When asked about his performance, Loy said, “Winning state was a weird, but amazing experience. It was a great experience and I’m glad I got to share it with my team.”

Hartke said, “This meet was the most fun I’ve ever had while being a part of the Normal West swim team. It was a really good way to go out.”

Normal West proved themselves to the other teams and they were able to have a top ten state finish that won’t be soon forgotten.
