On Friday, Nov 3, Normal West students who are interested in becoming educators traveled to ISU for a Future Teacher Conference.

Last Friday, November 3, ISU hosted High School students on their campus to participate in their Future Teacher Conference. These High School students consisted of those who are interested in pursuing a career in education.

This event lasted from 9:00am to 2:30pm. It consisted of checking in with the staff and then heading to the Braden Auditorium for a presentation from an opening speaker where Public Relations Secretary Officer and Normal West senior, Lorelai Hoban as well as Co-Vice President and Normal Community senior J. Beto were given a shoutout.

The students then went to breakout sessions which consisted of elementary education, childhood education, and many more different areas of education. Where professors and students spoke in their separate areas.

Students were then dismissed for lunch. When they came back there was a table fair full of different sponsors for majors and minors that ISU provides when it comes to teaching. Following this the students got to hear from an Educator’s Rising speaker.

There were also another section of breakout groups, including one for “communication with parents and students” and one for “inclusivity and diversity.” The night ended with a Diversity Matters panel.

Following this event, ISU is hosting students as part of Ed Pathway to sit in on some ISU classes this upcoming Thursday, November 9th.
