End of the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” nears
One of the most popular late night shows on television, the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, will have its final episode on February 26th, 2014.
“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” premiered in 1992 following the retirement of longtime host Johnny Carson.
The show’s format typically includes an opening monologue of jokes regarding current events. Next is` a comedy skit such as “headlines” as well as “late night correspondent.” After the comedy skit 2 guests are interviewed followed by a musical guest to finish the show.
In 2008, Jay Leno announced that he would retire and be succeeded by Conan O’Brien. His last episode was on May 29th, 2009. In September of 2009, Jay Leno’s prime time show premiered but was short-lived, lasting less than a year.
With poor ratings on his prime-time show, Jay Leno decided to come back to the Tonight Show and pushing Conan O’Brien back to the Late Night Show. Because of this, Conan O’Brien left NBC and started his new show on TBS. On March 1st, 2010, Jay Leno returned to the Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon began hosting the Late Night show.
With Jay Leno’s contract expiring in 2014, NBC announced that Jimmy Fallon will replace Jay Leno as the Late Night host. Seth Myers will replace Fallon on the Late Night show following the Olympics.
Some of the final guests on the show include Barack Obama, Adam Sandler, Charlie Sheen, Matt LeBlanc,Tim Allen, and Miley Cyrus.
The shows, final guest will be actor Billy Crystal, who was the shows, first guest when it premiered in 1992.
Students here at Normal West have different opinions on how they feel about Jay Leno.
Senior Owen Peterson said “I’m fine with it because Jimmy Fallon is replacing him and I’m a big fan of his show.”
Senior Brock Reily felt the opposite when asked the same question, he said “I’m sad about it because he’s been on a long time.”
Jay Leno is on NBC Monday through Friday at 10:34 PM and ends at 11:37 PM .
The final episode is on February 26th, 2014.
