Normal West boys track and field is off and running as they recently earned the title of Big 12 Indoor Conference Champions for the fifth year in a row.
This win gives the boys momentum as the indoor season winds down and they start looking towards the outdoor season.
Several returning athletes are sure to make it an exciting one to watch.
“We’re off to a great start. We’ve [had] our last indoor meet…down in Edwardsville, and we are coming off a win from the Indoor Big 12 Championship meet, which is always exciting,” Coach Aubin explained.
“Upperclassmen Aiden Swanlund and Sawyer Fillman are returners from our all state school record 4×8 team and on the sprint side are Cody Muhlbauer, Isaiah Willis, and Aj austin,” Aubin added.
As Aubin reflected on the past while expressing his hopes for the future, it was clear that he has great confidence his team can continue bringing home titles.
“The one that has been sneaking away from us is the intercity title. Community has always put up a good fight there, and they have won it the last couple of years. Our goal is to take all three championships – indoor conference, intercity and outdoor conference,” Aubin added.
Not only is the team destined for great things, but record breakers like Cody Muhlbauer are sure to make heads turn.
His most recent performance earned him the title of 60 Meter Dash Conference Champion.
His hard work is definitely paying off.
“I’ve been working towards this my entire life and it’s just truly a blessing that I’ve been given this talent.” Muhlbauer said.
“My plans for outdoor are just to PR. You know, do better than I did last year and just have fun. I also want to build up my teammates. I want to see them succeed. I just want everyone to do great,” Muhlbauer added.
Big goals will be set as athletes strive to make it to the final performance.
“I think we’ve got athletes that will move on from sectionals to state finals, and hopefully we get some more athletes on the wall of fame,” Aubin declared.
This is a team destined for greatness.
Be sure to watch closely as you might miss them running by.
