Boys Swim took a big win and look forward to their upcoming Intercity challenge on Jan. 23 at Normal Community High School

On Thursday, January 11, Normal West competed in a home meet against Bloomington, Centennial, and Mahomet High School. West finished first with a total of 170 points, and right behind West was Centennial with 134 points.

The first event was the 200 yard medley relay. Mahomet placed first and West placed fourth about 20 seconds behind Mahomet.

For the first couple events, Mahomet placed first, until the third event, the 200 yard IM, Aidan Starkey placed first and Centennial right behind that.

Even though West did win first in the meet, they were not occupying first place for most of the meet.

Some of the events that helped get West to first place were: the 100 yard freestyles, where the boys took 3rd through 8th place; and the 400 yard freestyle relay, where West took 1st and 3rd place, collectively gaining 30 points.

Senior Isaiah Herbst, who placed 4th in the 50 yard freestyle, noted that he was “proud of his team and all the hard work they’ve been putting in this season.”

During this meet, West also saw Sophomore Aiden Starkey and Freshman Cooper Franz place high in the breaststroke and backstroke, respectively. They were also in a group for the 400 yard freestyle, which also took first place.

Next up for West’s Boys Swimming is the Intercity meet on Jan. 23 at Normal Community High School.
