The Cat’s Meow Cafe is drawing crowds with coffee…and cats.
The cafe is owned by Lauri Hubbard, a local hairstylist, and is located by the airport on 507 N Hershey Rd, in Bloomington IL.
Normal West English teacher, Jeffery Kroesch, is a fan of the cafe, admitting that he first went on the day they opened and really enjoyed his time there.
“It’s a nice place to just sit down, enjoy your drink or read a book,” Kroesch stated.
Veronica Kroesch, wife to Mr. Kroesch and administrative assistant here at Normal West, personally knows Hubbard because she is her hair stylist, and they are close friends.
At first, Mr. and Mrs. Kroesch decided to visit the cafe to support their close friend and celebrate Hubbard’s success.
However, that first visit eventually led to the cafe becoming a favorite spot.
“The cafe is very clean. Those cats are extremely well taken care of, and the staff does a great job with, like, making sure to separate the food kitchen area from the cats. So it’s very professionally run,” Mr. Kroesch noted.
The cats are kept in their own room separate from the cafe area where all the drinks and food are served.
Once you get to the cafe, you have to go through the cafe area first and pay a deposit fee before you can play with the cats.
“You can’t just like walk straight in and go into the cat room,” Kroesch added.
Since visiting, the Kroesch family decided to adopt a well-trained cat Mochi who he had met with his wife while they were at the cafe.
“Cafe does an amazing job of like socializing them so that they can just be around people and in different situations.” Kroesch noted.
The biggest challenge for him when taking Mochi home was his dog adapting to having a new friend at the house.
“It was the dog that needed all the work,” Kroesch added.
Although Mochi is now comfortable and at home, Kroesch did note that there was a process to getting him fully adopted.
“They do a background check, usually do some reference calls, take your adoption fee, and then you can go pick up the cat,” Kroesch noted.
The adoption process includes filling out paper work through Illinois Pet Central Help. You can apply through their website.
The Cafe Meow Cafe is a welcoming community, so if you like cafe’s and cats it would be the perfect place for you to visit and have a nice drink.
