During the summer of 2023, senior Jayden Jones applied to 20 different jobs before finally starting at Dunkin’.
Most teenagers apply to a couple of jobs and then give up if they do not hear back from any of them…but Jones simply never gave up.
On average, teenagers usually stay at a job for six months before quitting.
However, Jones has stayed at the same job for two years and worked her way up to shift manager, all while still being in high school.
This is a testament to her work ethic, but it also shows how Jones truly enjoys the fast-paced job.
Although Dunkin’ can get busy, dealing with good and bad customers and having to make drinks during big rushes are a part of the process.
“You have to deal with good and bad customers, but that’s just a part of working,” Jones explained.
Jones’ favorite aspects of the job include being allowed to get anything free on the clock and the perception of Dunkin’ as a family where coworkers joke and know each other.
“Dunkin’ is like a family, everyone knows each other, and we play [and joke] with each other,” Jones said.
As the night shift manager, Jones has to manage a lot of tasks and take care of customers, which can be overwhelming when only one or two people are available to cover stations like the drink station, food station, drive-thru station, and window station.
Jones’ work ethic goes all the way back to early August of 2023; however, she has had to become more responsible because she’s now a shift manager.
Her work program teacher, Mrs. Maynerich, says that “[Jones] was in work program last year and is this year, as well. She got a perfect score on her evaluation,” where she is tested on her attendance, uniform, quality of work, and other things.
This evaluation is one that is done specifically for the work program, but it is not an incredibly normal feat to get a perfect score.
However, those that know Jones are not surprised by her quick rise in leadership.
Jones has taken a big step in this next chapter in her life, showing how much this job really means to her.
