The 26-year-old singer-songwriter Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, known as Chappell Roan, released the seemingly stand-alone single titled Good Luck, Babe! on April 4th, 2024.
However, excitement grew around the song’s catchy chorus weeks beforehand, as Roan made several online posts promoting and featuring the song pre-release. The song has been well received by fans and critics alike, with the song becoming Roan’s largest Spotify debut yet, accumulating more than 1 million streams during its first day.
Roan has been gaining traction after opening for Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour, which has positively impacted her overall streams and monthly listeners on Spotify.
The song itself mimics 90’s pop instrumentals with lyrics facing a denial of fate from an ex-lover. As of April 17, the song sits at just under 15 million streams, marking a classic in Roan’s discography.
Club classics / B2b – Charli XCX
A surprise drop on April 3, 2024, Charli XCX released 2 songs from her upcoming album, BRAT.
The songs, Club classics (a-side), and B2b (b-side), were accompanied by the release of several vinyl variants, which were first available to fans before a public presale.
Club classics is an upbeat, 2000’s-esque pop song about going out, and wanting to party to her and her friend’s music. A notable reference to the late Sophie, an influential producer and artist, has caught the attention of many fans, as well as mentions of other producers, A.G. Cook and George Daniel.
B2b is pure dance music – basslines with synthetic beats topped with short, catchy lyrics.
The entirety of BRAT will be released on June 7, 2024, and will follow similar production and vocal styles.
II MOST WANTED – Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus
Becoming the first female duo of 2024 to chart in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100, Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus worked together on the third single of Cowboy Carter to create an unmistakable hit by two of the most influential females in the music industry.
The two blend their voices together in the chorus, singing, “I’ll be your shotgun rider ‘til the day I die,” a symbol of friendship through time, as the two have long been in the industry together.
Cyrus praises Beyoncé in a post published on the album’s release date, stating, “I’ve loved Beyonce since long before I had the opportunity to meet & work with her. My admiration runs so much deeper now that I’ve created along side of her…”
Beyoncé has served as an inspiration to many stars in the music industry, and Cowboy Carter has only worked to prove this more.
Espresso – Sabrina Carpenter
Following the success of her previous hit single Feather, Sabrina Carpenter performed at Coachella 2024.
Ahead of her stage appearance, she took to social media to announce a new song, released on April 11, 2024, titled Espresso.
The pop production, lyrics, and accompanying music video follow a vintage, beachy aesthetic, which may be clues and hints to what her next album will feature.
There has been overwhelming support for the single, debuting on Spotify with 3.67 million streams, Carpenter’s largest debut on the platform yet.
Previous tracks like Nonsense and Feather have become incredibly popular hits in Carpenter’s discography, and she grew in popularity while opening for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.
Espresso has been gaining traction on TikTok, increasing Carpenter’s exposure in media and solidifying her place in pop music.
