Donations benefit fellow Wildcats

Basket in the girl’s bathroom with donations of small household items such as lotions, soaps, and shampoos.

The recent theme of school wide kindness has gotten creative staff members’ minds twirling. Starting this previous Monday, February 29th, there has been a basket set up in the girls bathroom with a sign that reads “Lady Wildcats, please help yourself to a free item.”

After seeing a post on Facebook about the average person’s hoarding of hotel toiletries, it sparked an idea with Normal West Speech Pathologist Mrs. Peg Modglin . She addressed the idea stating, “On our recent snow day I noticed a photo of a huge array of hotel shampoo samples and lotions. I got to thinking about how many products I have at my house that I have that I never use. I have so much extra, while some people have none.”

As a way of bringing our school together, and a way to help our fellow Wildcats have everything they need, the basket will remain in the bathroom as long as donations continue to come in. Since the awareness and support has continued to grow rapidly, the hope is that more donations will come.

Mrs. Modglin stated, “ I want to keep the taking of these products anonymous  so that nobody has to feel bad about taking something from the basket. By the end of the first day, the whole thing was completely empty, there was obviously a need for this. Staff members who also love the idea have started to bring in their donations, now it’s the students’ turn!”

Junior Ali Reece noticed the basket saying, “I think it’s a cool idea. Its great for the people who are in need of extra things and also fun for anyone who just wants to take home something small and special. It’s a good new way to bring people together.”

This great thing can’t continue unless the donations keep coming in, so if any Wildcat students have items (girls or boys) that they would like to put in the basket, all donations are welcome. Some ideas of items to donate would be, small deodorants, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, toothpaste, perfume/cologne, etc. If there are any questions regarding things that are allowed to be put in there, talk to Mrs. Modglin to make sure. Let’s come together to keep this great thing going!
