In late April and early May, Normal West will host it’s latest spring musical in the Normal West Auditorium. This year’s musical will be The Wizard of Oz.

Students and staff will begin rehearsals next week. The rehearsals can vary from two hours to, later in the season, full days of practice, or after school until late at night.

The cast list was just posted last week, which includes: Sabrina Poston as Dorothy, Ani Chalian as the Wicked Witch of the West, Allyah Evans as Glinda the Good Witch of the North, and Nathan Anton as The Wizard.

The musical is run by English teacher and speech coach, Ms. Ellie Marvin and choir director Mrs. Sara Williams.

“My favorite part of being involved with the musical is being able to connect with so many students. It gives me the opportunity to work with so many more students than just the ones I have in class,” Mrs. Williams stated.

“It is nice to see them grow, and especially with a play like this, with nonsensical characters, the kids really have a lot they can put into the characters” she continued.

“We actually chose this musical because it involved so many, not only students here at West, but also children,” said Ms. Marvin.

Younger children will be cast as the munchkins in the play.

“I’ve been a part of the musical all four years that I’ve been here at West,” stated sabrina Poston, who will be portraying Dorothy.

“It has always been fun, and I’ve made so many friends thanks to it. Everyone working together, the students and the teachers, everyone, it’s such a wonderful experience. And this year, being cast as the lead, it’s such a nice way to go out with senior year.”

The Normal West musical will be held from April 28 – May 1, 2016.
