The Normal West front office will look a little different next year as long-time secretary Linda Bach will be retiring at the conclusion of this school year.
Current West students will recognize her most as the attendance secretary, but Bach has spent time in different roles in the front office.
“Well I actually subbed here for a few years, and as my kids got older and a position became available, I was asked if I would like to come and work so I did,” Bach stated.
Bach, who has been at West for the last 10 years, is excited for the next step in her life.
“After I retire I have four grandchildren and another one on the way so I will be very busy with my grandchildren,” Bach stated.
The plans after her retirement look warm and busy.
“I hope to travel a little bit with my husband who is retired, and we also have elderly parents that I want to be able to spend some more time with, so I think I’ll be very busy” Bach added.
In her current role as attendance secretary, Bach has always been there for students, and although they are not always excited to sign in with her, she was known to maintain a positive attitude and smile.
“The favorite part of my job is seeing the kids and just having a relationship with them, and trying to make them happy when they’re maybe not so happy when they sign in with me,” Bach said.
Through all of the interactions she has had as one of the first faces people see at Normal West, Bach will definitely be missed by many, and she echoes this sentiment with all of the people she’s met here at Normal West, as well.
“I am going to miss my coworkers I really have had some awesome co-workers over the years and just really all of the staff and definitely the kids,” Bach stated.
And although, its time for Bach to take her positivity elsewhere, it’s true that this ‘heart of the front office’ will be missed by all.
