The Normal Community West High School’s Boys’ Varsity Tennis had a big week this week, April 22-26. Te boys has 3 matches, playing against Peoria Notre Dame, Bloomington, and UHigh. The team has previously competed at Richwoods, winning 5-4, Centennial, 5-4, and Central Catholic, with an impressive 9-0 win last week.
The 2 captains, Rolen Schlipmann (12) and Evan Pattelli (11) have taken a large leadership role, being the only 2 varsity players with experience from last season.
Their single records are 3-6 (Schlipmann) and 6-3 (Pattelli), but have a score of 3-3 in doubles.
Coach Drew Emerick states the two are “catching up to speed” after previously being in spots 5 and 6.
Patelli echoes this sentiment, stating, “It seems like all of our matches are close, and with a little more experience, I think we’re going to be a good team by the end of the year.” He further added that “We may not be the most skilled team, but we have athletes, and our athleticism gives us an advantage when facing tough opponents.”
In regards to Notre Dame, Schlipmann said, “We also beat Notre Dame which is a team that’s always good and we have not beat them in years.”
He also has high hopes for the young talent and the overall future of the team.
Cheer on our Tennis team as they continue their season and prepare for Sectionals!
