Normal West boys track is breaking records and taking names.
The indoor track seasons are well under way, and the boys team has already broken four school records in just one meet.
Wildcat Track and Field competed at the Coach Basting Invitational last weekend at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Sophomore Cody Mulhbaur broke the boys indoor 60 meter dash with a previous time of 7.07 with a new time of 6.90.
That time is currently ranked fifth in the state of Illinois.
This is huge for the team as Cody’s athleticism and speed is carrying over from his breakout football season in the fall.
Muhlbaur will surely be fun to watch as he possibly breaks more records as the season pans out.
The Boys 4×2 team made up of Cody Mulhbaur, Jaxon Hill, Demir Harris and Marshaun Jones ran a 1.33.33, beating the previous school record which was 1.32.83.
This team is simply fast. No questions about it.
You can watch to see the noise the 12th-ranked Wildcats make during conference and intercity later in the season.
Senior runner Steel Zeller broke the 60 meter high hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds, beating the previous school record by .04 seconds.
Steel is in his final track season at West.
Zeller will look to continue his success and is also ranked 33rd in the state.
Lastly, last week, Senior AJ Austin broke the indoor school record in the long jump.
Austin jumped a staggering 22’ 6”.
AJ is poised for another year of success as he will take his success from the indoor season into the outdoor season.
AJ ranks within the top 15 of jumpers in the state.
With all of this success, these fast Cats will hope to bring home some hardware to show for their accomplishments later in the season.
The Wildcats will hope to continue success into the meet at Illinois Wesleyan University on Monday, March 10.
