Over this past weekend, Normal West Cross Country competed in Sectionals, where four Normal West runners qualified for the state meet.
For the girls, Juniors Renee Warren placed ninth, Amanda Warren placed 25th, and Julie Bach placed 27th.
“[Last] Saturday was mid, but we’re feeling good for [this] Saturday,” Renee stated.
This Saturday’s race is in Peoria at Detweiller Park on a very familiar course for the Wildcat runners.
The weather is calling for rain on Saturday, which is a very familiar memory for the trio of girls, as two years ago, they ran a muddy Detweiller course that saw Julie Bach getting 6th in the 2A final.
For the boys, Senior Zeke Rice has continued his dominance by placing 25th in his sectional race and will now run in his final high school cross country meet on the biggest stage and in the biggest class.
Rice is eager for Saturday and is ready to race for a state championship.
“I’m excited to race. It’s going to be emotional being the last race I run in…for this race, it has to be the freakiest race I run,” Rice noted.
Head Coach Chad Aubin is excited for his runners to take one final run.
“We’re feeling good we’ve had some good training and we’ve even had a practice in the rain that is going to help us prepare,” Aubin added.
The Wildcats will race this Saturday in the 3A state meet at 10:00 am at DetWeiller Park in Peoria, IL. Updates will be posted on IHSA’s website.
