Softball wins close one before heading off to Gulf Shores for Spring Break trip

Senior pitcher Kenzie Fasig took the win against a tough Rochester team on Wednesday, March 20. The girls will head to Gulf Shores for their annual Spring Break next week.

The Normal West Softball team pulled through the last inning, playing a close game against the Rochester Rockets on Wednesday March 20th at Maxwell Park.

West took the lead for most of the game but towards the end, Rochester tried to win but could not keep up with the Wildcats.

Pitcher Kenzie Fasig led the Wildcats to another victory, striking out six of Rochester’s rockets.

Seniors Abby Horeis and Emily McCandless along with Junior Olivia Kobel all racked up two hits for the Wildcats.

During the fifth inning, the score was 4-1 with the Wildcats having the lead.

The Rockets worked their way through to close that gap, but the Wildcats didn’t budge.

“The energy in the dugout really picked up in the fifth inning and gave us the momentum to take the lead and finish the game,” Senior Jossie Rood says about what motivated the team to finish off the game.

The end score of the game was 8-7. The now sit at record 2-1.

Up next, West will be playing Vestavia Hills on Monday March 25th at 10am in Gulf Shores!
