On Wednesday, November 29, the Normal West Wrestling Team won both matches against Peoria and Champaign Central, with the final score against Peoria being 76-6 and 56-21 for Central.
Even with the loss of many of last year’s varsity players, the team is already exceeding expectations. Many of the wrestlers are new to varsity and even new to wrestling, making a big impact on the team.
So far, the team has achieved 25 pins.
Five top six place winners at the Antioch tournament and six West wrestlers hold places in Illinois MatMen rankings. They’re being deemed undefeated in team duels thus far.
To keep their bodies in shape, the team has been running outside and around the bleachers (when the weather allows). Indoors, they will run the hallways and do stances in motion.
The next meet for the girls is on Friday, December 8, at Pontiac H.S. at 4:30 PM.
