The Normal West Wildcats are Sectional Champions for the first time since 2021.
This past week, the Wildcats were on the road with both matchups being held at Pekin Community High School.
On Monday night, the Wildcats took on Minooka High School. The first set of this match was back and forth, but the Wildcats came out ahead winning 25-20. After a short break, West came back and didn’t give Minooka a chance, taking the second set, 25-9.
Normal West put up an astonishing number of 32 kills in the 2 games of round 1.
The Cats headed back to Pekin on Wednesday, November 1 to compete for the sectional title.
The Belleville West Maroons were ready to play from the start, winning the first set 25-20. The Wildcats, however, huddled between sets and got Normal West back on track, dominating in the second set ending with a score of 25-16.
The third set determined who would win the sectional championship and advance to super-sectionals, so both teams showed their best performances on the court. However, the Maroons couldn’t quite match the Wildcats’ performance. Normal West took the sectional title after a 26-24 third set.
The Wildcats will now move on to a Super-Sectional matchup at Normal Community High School on Friday, November 3, where they will play Mother McAuley in hopes of advancing to the State series at Illinois State University next weekend.
