The Normal West Cross Country Team crushed the Big 12 conference this season. The girls cross country team won 1st place for the first time in 11 years, and the boys took 4th.
However, not only did they crush team goals, but they also beat many personal records as well.
“85-90% of our athletes ran their best time of the season on Saturday [October 14] at Big 12” Head Coach Chad Aubin boasted.
The six all conference medalists were: Sophomore, Amanda Warren with; Sophomore, Renee Warren with 6th; Sophomore, Julie Bach with1st, , Junior Aiden Swanlund with 14th, Junior, Zeke Rice with13th, and Senior, Ethan Snyder with 7th.
The Team has been preparing for their performances since the beginning of summer with the Summer Run Club.
“Our varsity athletes are pretty good about participation over the summer and get their miles in” Aubin noted.
The workouts and runs get longer and harder through the season to prepare for the big moments like the ones they had at the Big12 Conference meet.
“As we get towards this championship racing season…we start to actually lower the amount the amount we’re running and do a little bit faster stuff,” Aubin explained. The Regional meet is tomorrow, Saturday, October 21 in Alton. There, the top 7 teams qualify for the Sectional meet, which will be held in, Grand City. At Sectionals, the top 6 teams will work to qualify for the State Championship meet.
The State Championship meet is set for Saturday, November 4 at Detweiler Park in Peoria, IL.
