Y’all, it’s time to get dressed

Everyone wants to break out the shorts and dresses as soon as the temperature hits 60 degrees. After a long winter, this seems like the perfect time; however, this style swap is just a little premature. If you are ready to ditch your winter clothes rather than skipping spring completely, dress for spring by following these shopping tips:

No matter how warm it may feel in the months directly following the winter, it’s not warm enough for shorts and tanks to make an appearance. As tempting as they are, skip the shorts and look for ankle jeans or capris this spring.

This year, distressed bottom capris have become a staple for spring fashion. The rips and frayed edges are becoming popular because they are just different enough from solid and jeans worn during winter yet still long enough to keep legs warm from the sometimes frigid winds and showers April is known for. Shorter jeans provide a refreshing break from full-length jeans and give legs a slow exposure back into the light of day after hibernation all winter long.

As far as jean colors, look for jeans with lighter washes. The lightness of the jeans is going to be a good spring color that gives the impression of a lighter and hopefully warmer season. But if light jeans just aren’t for you, bring the flower budding on the ground to your wardrobe by wearing embroidered jeans. A pop of color on the bottom will remind you that warmer times are definitely coming (the keyword is coming, it’s still not time for shorts).

If you are really ready to rip off the band-aid and expose your legs, a dress is going to the best way to go. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not giving the green light to starting wearing short dresses and sandals. I’m instead suggesting dressing up a simple dress to give the spring feeling we all need at this time of year.

Jean jackets, cardigans, and sweaters are a must when wearing a dress and it’s only 60 degrees outside. Pair a solid sleeve with flower dresses or vise versa. Layering is going be your dresses best friend this spring.

Just make it a rule, something must be covered when it’s still under 80 degrees. Summer is coming, it really is, and the time for shorts it coming, it really is. Until then, save the shorts and bare dresses and opt for shorter jeans and  trendy jackets.
