The Normal West boys basketball team wrapped up their Intercity tournament play on Monday, December 2. The boys went 2-2 in tournament play.
Game 1 vs. Normal Community
The Normal West Wildcats opened up their season on Monday, November 25, and the Intercity basketball tournament with a loss against their arch-rival Normal Community 60-55.
Senior guard Mike Zaleski poured in 28 points on 5/11 shooting from 3. Central Michigan signee, Kobe Walker, had 15 for the Ironmen.
Game 2 vs U High
The Wildcats played the University High School Pioneers in the second game of the Intercity tournament on Friday, November 29.
Zaleski led the scoring for the Wildcats with 21 points, shooting 50% from the 3.
The Wildcats were up by one going into the fourth quarter when the Pioneers from U-High went on a offensive spurt in the fourth quarter, behind Cam Johnson prevailing the West Wildcats to their second loss of the year.
Game 3 vs Bloomington
Normal West took a win in a ‘barnburner’ against the Bloomington Raiders 36-34 on Saturday, November 30.
Zaleski was the game’s leading scorer with 15 and 5 rebounds. J
Junior guard Maliq Givens scored the go-ahead midrange to propel the Cats to victory in the 4th quarter. He finished with 7 points and 2 rebounds.
Game 4 vs Central Catholic
West came away with a victory in an overtime thriller against the Saints 59-52 on Monday, December 2.
Givens had 20 points and made 2 clutch game-tying free throws to send the game to OT.
The Saints’ TJ Larson poured in 5 threes, finishing the game with 15 points.
The Cats finished their Intercity with a 2-2 record, placing 3rd overall behind U-high, and tournament champions Normal Community.
The Wildcats next game is Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 7:00 at home against the Urbana Tigers.
