Normal West welcomes new teachers

The 2018- 2019 school year has brought many changes to Normal West High School, one of the most drastic changes is the abundance of new teachers at West this year.

Two of the new teachers this year are Mrs. Suddarth and Mr. Akyuz. Suddarth is a family and consumer science teacher. Mr. Akyuz teaches art.

Suddarth is starting her third year in education; before teaching at West, she taught in Champaign.

Mrs.Suddarth teaches Fashion, Lifestyle Management, Culinary Arts and Parenting.This year at West she is looking forward to “getting to know my students and joining in on west festivities like homecoming, prom and West Fest.”

Senior Helen Wonsowski said, “I have Mrs. Suddarth for Fashion, and so far I really like it, and she is really nice.”

Mr. Akyuz teaches Ceramics and Sculptures and Photography. He has taught in public schools for five years. Before that he was a substitute teacher and also did private teaching.

He is from Denver, Colorado. Before coming to West, Mr. Akyuz taught at Flanagan-Cornell High School. He said he is looking forward to advocating for art at Normal West this year.

Senior Sarah Grilliot shared, “I enjoy being in Mr. A’s class because the class is pretty laid back and he plays fun music.”
