Wildcats saying goodbye to Ms. Mayer once again
Due to large budget cuts and a lack of job security, loved girls golf coach and social studies teacher, Ms. Alison Mayer will be resigning as head coach of the Girl’s Golf team and putting in her notice to leave Unit 5 on May 1, 2015. Mayer will be heading to Rochester High School which is south west of Springfield.
Although Mayer has been back at Normal Community West High School for a brief semester, taking over Psychology, AP Psychology and US History classes of the recently promoted assistant principal, Mr. Hill, she has had a lasting impact on hundreds of NCWHS wildcats.
Junior Haylee Sieg has felt this impact in Mayer’s AP Psychology class, Sieg said this about her favorite teacher: “She’s honestly one of the best teachers I’ve had. She works endlessly to make sure her students have the opportunity to succeed, not only on the AP exam, but in the class as well. I’ve learned a lot from her. She’ll be missed”.
This impact also has also reached many levels of the high school food chain, principal Dave Johnson told the Paw Print, “It’s very sad that Ms. Mayer will be leaving this high school, she is a great teacher”. Similarly, Mayer has stated that the decision was not any easy one, however she believes it is the right decision for her career. However, “once a wildcat, always a wildcat” said Ms. Mayer.
