On February 27th, a charity basketball game benefiting Bloomington and Normal residents with mental illness was held in the north gym. The game was between teachers and students at Normal West and organized by  Micaela Harris and Lyssa Dougan.

The game was fairly close the whole time but the end result was 39 to 36, with the teachers taking the victory. Evan Mucciolo stated, “It was a tough game, Mr. Burgess was by far the hardest to guard.”

This game was not about the winner and the loser because everyone was there to support mentally ill people. Right outside of the north gym there were tables set up where you could donate money to different organizations. Abby Thompson said, “I was really glad to have had the opportunity to participate in a fun charitable event.”

Between periods there were a variety of games that the fans could come down and participate in. A couple of the events they played were the half court shot contest and heads or tails contest. Mikey Callahan won the half court shot contest. The prize was a 40 dollar gift card to Moe’s. The coin flipping contest was between the fans. About 20 fans came down and they had to guess the correct outcome of the coin flip. The last fan standing won a ten dollar gift card.

The faculties head coach was Matt Hoder and the students coach was Mitchell Bertrand. “I was very proud of the way the students team played. I was hoping we could take the win, but we all still had a lot of fun,” said Bertrand.

The turnout was great and many of the fans and players donated to the charity, “I felt proud to be apart of the Green Out game. Being able to raise money for people with mental illnesses was such an amazing feeling,” said Keely Theobald.
