Baseball prepares to get back into the swing of the season
It can be hard to repeat success, but that is exactly what Coach Chris Hawkins and the Wildcat baseball team is trying to do this year.
Last year was one of the most successful years in the history of Normal West baseball, going 32-4 and adding another Big 12 title. Although it didn’t end how the team wanted, they still considered it a great year. The team lost in the Regional final game against Moline. Unfortunately the Wildcats ran into good pitching and couldn’t score enough runs.
The team is going to learn how to replace a lot of talent from the class of 2013. Four of the 8 seniors from last season went on to play Division 1 baseball at highly respectable schools.
When asked about the upcoming season, returning senior Mitch Thomas said, “We’re going to have to learn how to play together without the guys from last year. They were a big part of our success last year, but we have plenty of talent this year. Team bonding will play a big role in getting ready for our season.”
Baseball tryouts start Monday, March 3 and continue until Thursday, March 6. It should be another fun year of baseball with plenty of success.
