With the holidays just around the corner families all around are gathering around the television to enjoy their favorite Christmas classics. 

Entertainment Weekly has selected their top 10 favorite Christmas films. 

Coincidentally, my family has created our own top 10 favorite Christmas movies and I’ve chosen to rank them alongside the Entertainment Weekly’s top 10. 

#10 on the Sparrow family Christmas classic movie list is “Polar Express”. There is nothing like sitting on the couch with family, hot chocolate in hand, dreaming about being on that train. Coming in at #10 on Entertainment Weekly’s Christmas film list is the 1964 movie, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. 

Coming in at #9 for my family is “White Christmas”. This movie was the love story of my grandparents. On a less sentimental note, EW ranks “The Year Without Santa Clause” as #9. 

#8 on my family’s Christmas list is Tim Allen’s “Santa Clause”. Eighth on the Entertainment Weekly list is the 2003 comedy “Bad Santa”, a slightly more creud take on the fictional red suit wearing character. 

Ranking sixth on my family’s Christmas movie list is the 1964 claymation “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. This movie has been on full display around the Sparrow household as we have Rudolph ornaments, lights, and garland scattered about. “Love Actually” is given #6 on the EW list which I don’t find very worthy of the top 10 list. 

Coming in fifth place on the Sparrow movie list is the Christmas film,”How the Grinch Stole Christmas” that came out in 2001. Entertainment Weekly ranks the 1966 cartoon version as their #5.

#4 on our family list is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, this is a laugh riot of our family. If we don’t quote cousin Eddy at least twice on Christmas… it’s not a Sparrow family Christmas. #4 on Entertainment Weekly’s movie list is “Elf”, a movie too precious to rank fourth on my family’s list. 

The third most endearing movie to the Sparrow family is the 1969 “Frosty the Snowman”. Coming in at #3 on the EW list is “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. This movie does not make the cut for our family list, however, we do enjoy the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Halloween movies. 

#2 on my family’s list is the iconic Will Farrell in “Elf”. This movie is a light hearted comedy that ties in classic Christmas stories with a modern life story. Coming in at #2 on Entertainment Weekly’s list is “Christmas Story” while this did make the family list, we don’t enjoy it as much as TBS loyal families do. 

Coming in at #1 for the Sparrow family’s top 10 Christmas movies is “It’s a Wonderful Life” which is the same on Entertainment Weekly’s list. This classic black & white film tells the story of a success driven young man and his family. It ends with a heartwarming walk back home which touches the hearts of almost everyone that watches it.
